"If I schedule with Tailwind from an existing Pin will it count as a Repin on the original Pin?"
"Does Tailwind keep the chain of "Repins" when scheduling Pins from Pinterest?"
These are many different ways of asking a very specific question, one that is quite frankly hard to answer. We do hope you'll find this article helpful, but please reach out and we'd be happy to explain it more!
Term: "Direct Repins"
- When you Repin a Pin on Pinterest, the Pin you just pinned from will receive one new Repin and the owner of that Pin will be notified.
Unfortunately, Pinterest doesn't support direct Repins via their Marketing Developer Partner API at the moment. This results in when you schedule a "Repin" from Pinterest through Tailwind, it will be published as a new original website Pin from the website. Obviously, this is not ideal for us either - we'd love to be able to offer direct Repinning - so we are waiting anxiously for Pinterest to support this functionality for their official partners!
That being said, there is actually a big advantage to scheduling original Pins vs. direct Repins.
Original Pins from a website can be stronger signals to Pinterest when it comes to how they rank your website for surfacing Pins in the smart feed, search results, related Pins and category feeds. If you think about it, someone posting a Pin from your website is a stronger indication of interest in the content than simply Repinning something you come across on Pinterest, because you're actually taking the extra effort to add something new to Pinterest. More original website Pins translates into a higher trust score for the website across Pinterest (the same way that a higher website authority can improve where you show up in google search results), which all translates to more visibility and more traffic! This is not to say that Repins are bad, not at all! However, original website Pins tend to have a bigger impact on your overall success on Pinterest than Repins do. This is especially true if you're simply trying to inflate your Repin counts by Repinning your own Pins from one board to another.
"If the published Pins from Tailwind are new original website Pins,
how will the Pinner know I repinned it?"
It has come to common knowledge that if you, as a new Pinner, Repin a Pin on Pinterest, the original Pinner will receive a "X Pin has been [Repinned] by X.Person". It is very satisfying to see that number go up, and watch the number of repins just roll in! But, for as gratifying as it is, its not a true engagement metric which is why Pinterest introduced Summed up Repins.
Term: "Summed up Repins"
- The total number of [Repins] and likes the Pin has gotten across all of Pinterest (before you only saw how many people [Repinned] your copy of that Pin). Pinterest Help
There are many reasons why this is great thing for bloggers, businesses and many others who use Pinterest as their primary source of Referral Traffic. We've highlighted, dissected and shared some great feedback from fellow Pinners on our blog, " What You Need To Know About Pinterest's Activity Changes".
Summed up Repins also gives a benefit to using Tailwind for scheduling, if not even better than Direct Repinning! Every Pin you post on Pinterest (regardless if they have been published through Tailwind) will be in the Pin Inspector and includes analytics directly from the Marketing Developer Partner API such as: Repins, Likes, and Comments, and these are not summed up. This can help you understand what boards and descriptions are working for you. It’s a win-win!
In addition, because by virtue of Summed up Repins, the original Pinner will be able to see ALL the repins including yours that you published from Tailwind!
